1.4.3 (a) The Northern York County Regional Police Department Police Mission Statement And Statement Of Organizational Values

I. Purpose

To provide the members of the Northern York County Regional Police Department with a clear understanding of the police mission as defined by the agency. The police mission presents difficulty in developing a proper perspective. You may point to a statute and operate under the belief, that the statute is a “mission”, enforce it, but we as an agency require more than an interpretation of a statute. Goals must be comparable to public goals; characteristics of one community do not necessarily reflect those of another. In the simplest of forms the police mission is the maintenance of social order within carefully prescribed ethical and constitutional guidelines.

II. Policy

It is the policy of the agency to adopt a police mission statement to provide the members of the Northern York County Regional Police Department with a model to provide an understanding of the goals of the department.

1.4.3 (a) The Northern York County Regional Police Department Police Mission And Statement of Department Values

Police Mission

We the members of the Northern York County Regional Police Department strive to provide the members of our community with the highest degree of police services available.

We do this in the spirit of intergovernmental cooperation, the foundation upon which our agency is built.

We understand that we accomplish more as a group, than as individuals.

We extend that belief to our role within the agency, and as the agency to the participating municipalities.

We strive to attain actualization as individuals, through dedication, professionalism and hard work for the agency.

We believe in fairness, justice, protecting the innocent, and in being the best we can be, for ourselves, and the communities we serve.

We go first. We lead. We are second to no one, in our quest and commitment for excellence.

We believe in doing what others doubt, we apply leading edge technology in our efforts; we go forward, always seeking change for the better.

We are aggressive in the repression of crime, the apprehension of offenders, and are dedicated to keeping our community safe.

We seek to reflect our communities in our actions, and strive to maintain the good faith, acceptance and support of our community.

1.4.3 (a) Values Statement

Central to our mission are the values that guide our work and decisions, and help us to contribute to the quality of life in the Northern York County Regional Police jurisdiction.
Our values are characteristics of qualities of work. Our values are non-negotiable. Although we may need to balance them, we will never ignore them for the sake of expediency or personal preference.

We hold our values constantly before us to teach and remind us, and the community we serve of our ideals. They are the foundation upon which our guidelines, policies, goals and operations are founded.

In fulfilling our mission, we need the support of our citizens, elected officials, and municipal staffs, in order to provide this quality of service our values commit us to providing.
